Fruit of the Spirit

The Fruit of the Spirit is a list of qualities that the Holy Spirit helps to grow in our lives. These qualities are described in the Bible in the book of Galatians, chapter 5. They show us how to live in a way that pleases God and how to treat others.

What are the Fruits of the Spirit?

Bible Verse: Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

The Apostle Paul lists nine qualities that make up the Fruit of the Spirit. These are like the natural result of the Holy Spirit’s work in a person’s life. Let’s understand each one:

  1. Love: Caring deeply for others.
  2. Joy: A deep and lasting happiness, not based on what’s happening around us.
  3. Peace: Inner calm and contentment, even in difficult times.
  4. Patience: Being able to wait without getting upset.
  5. Kindness: Treating others gently and thoughtfully.
  6. Goodness: Choosing to do what’s right and helping others.
  7. Faithfulness: Being loyal and trustworthy.
  8. Gentleness: Being soft-spoken and considerate in our actions.
  9. Self-control: Being able to control our actions and impulses.

The Importance of the Fruit of the Spirit

The Fruit of the Spirit is important because it shows how Christians are meant to live. When we have these qualities, it’s like showing the world a little bit of what God is like.

How Do We Grow the Fruit of the Spirit?

Bible Verse: Galatians 5:25

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

We grow the Fruit of the Spirit by living in line with the Holy Spirit. This means asking God to help us show these qualities in our lives, and trying to live in a way that pleases Him.
