Grade 5 Writing Prompts


Here’s a list of writing prompt ideas for 36 weeks of Grade 5, along with instructions for each week:

Week 1:
Writing Prompt 1: Write a descriptive paragraph about your favorite summer activity.
Writing Prompt 2: Imagine you could have any superpower for a day. What would it be and how would you use it?
Writing Prompt 3: Write a story about a mysterious object you found in your backyard.

Week 2:
Writing Prompt 1: Describe a time when you felt proud of an accomplishment. What did you do and why were you proud?
Writing Prompt 2: If you could invent a new game, what would it be like? Describe the rules and how to play.
Writing Prompt 3: Write a persuasive letter to your principal suggesting a new addition or change to your school.

Week 3:
Writing Prompt 1: Write a poem about your favorite season and why you enjoy it.
Writing Prompt 2: Imagine you woke up one morning and found yourself in a different country. Describe your adventure.
Writing Prompt 3: Write a fictional story about a magical creature you encounter in your backyard.

Week 4:
Writing Prompt 1: Describe your dream vacation destination. Where would you go and what would you do there?
Writing Prompt 2: Write a letter to your future self, predicting what you think your life will be like in ten years.
Writing Prompt 3: Invent a new ice cream flavor and write a persuasive advertisement to convince people to try it.

Week 5:
Writing Prompt 1: Write a story about a time when you had to overcome a fear.

Week 6:

Week 7:

Writing Prompt 3: Describe a place you’ve never been to but would love to visit. What do you imagine it’s like?

Week 8:
Writing Prompt 1: Write a story about a day in the life of a superhero. What challenges do they face and how do they overcome them?
Writing Prompt 2: If you could have any pet, real or imaginary, what would it be? Describe what it looks like and how you would take care of it.
Writing Prompt 3: Write a letter to your favorite author, telling them how their books have impacted you.

Week 9:
Writing Prompt 1: Imagine you wake up with the ability to fly. Describe your adventures and how this new ability changes your life.
Writing Prompt 2: Write a letter to a famous scientist, asking them questions about their discoveries and their inspirations.

Week 10:

Week 11:
