Kybalion

home/Knowledge Base/Social Studies/Kybalion

The Kybalion is a philosophical text that explores the principles of Hermeticism, a religious and philosophical tradition based on the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. In this lesson, we will explore the basic concepts of the Kybalion, its history, and its impact on the world.

Principles of the Kybalion

The Kybalion teaches seven principles that form the basis of Hermeticism. These principles are:

  1. The Principle of Mentalism – Everything in the universe is mental, and the universe itself is a mental creation.
  2. The Principle of Correspondence – As above, so below; as below, so above.
  3. The Principle of Vibration – Everything is in motion, and nothing is truly at rest.
  4. The Principle of Polarity – Everything has two poles, and everything is dual in nature.
  5. The Principle of Rhythm – Everything has a rhythm, and everything flows in and out.
  6. The Principle of Cause and Effect – Every cause has an effect, and every effect has a cause.
  7. The Principle of Gender – Everything has masculine and feminine elements, and gender manifests on all planes of existence.

History of the Kybalion

The Kybalion was first published in 1908 by the “Three Initiates,” a group of anonymous authors who claimed to have received the teachings from a person known as the “Master.” The text drew from various sources, including Hermeticism, Theosophy, and New Thought, and became a popular and influential work in the New Age and occult movements.

Impact of the Kybalion

The Kybalion has had a significant impact on the world, particularly in the areas of spirituality, philosophy, and metaphysics. Some of the ways in which the Kybalion has influenced the world include:

Spiritual Development – The Kybalion has inspired many people to explore the principles of Hermeticism and to develop a deeper understanding of the universe and their place in it.

Philosophical Exploration – The Kybalion has contributed to the development of various philosophical and metaphysical schools of thought, including New Thought and the New Age movement.

Literary Influence – The Kybalion has inspired numerous works of fiction and non-fiction, including the works of science fiction author Philip K. Dick and the writings of self-help guru Napoleon Hill.
