By the end of this unit study, preschoolers will be able to:

  1. Identify and name specific fairy tales (e.g., Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast).
  2. Understand the basic elements and themes of these fairy tales.
  3. Recognize the lessons and morals conveyed in the stories.
  4. Develop imagination and creativity through fairy tale-related activities.
  5. Gain a basic understanding of storytelling and character analysis.

Schedule: 5-Day Plan

Day 1: Sleeping Beauty

  • Introduce the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty and discuss its characters and setting.
  • Explore themes of kindness and breaking curses.
  • Read a simplified version of Sleeping Beauty.
  • Activity: Create a paper plate crown craft.

Day 2: Beauty and the Beast

  • Explore the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast and discuss the enchanted castle.
  • Discuss the importance of inner beauty and kindness.
  • Read a simplified version of Beauty and the Beast.
  • Activity: Create a “Magical Rose” craft.

Day 3: Cinderella (Review)

  • Review the fairy tale of Cinderella and discuss its themes of transformation.
  • Discuss the value of believing in oneself and the magic of dreams.
  • Read a simplified version of Cinderella.
  • Activity: Create a “Glass Slipper” craft.

Day 4: Little Red Riding Hood (Review)

  • Review the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood and discuss the forest setting.
  • Discuss the importance of listening to warnings and being cautious.
  • Read a simplified version of Little Red Riding Hood.
  • Activity: Create a “Red Hooded Cape” craft.

Day 5: The Three Little Pigs (Review)

  • Review the fairy tale of The Three Little Pigs and discuss the different houses.
  • Discuss the concepts of planning ahead and hard work.
  • Read a simplified version of The Three Little Pigs.
  • Activity: Build and test different materials for “pigs’ houses.”
