Adam and Eve

The story of Adam and Eve is one of the most famous stories from the Bible, found in the Book of Genesis. It tells about the first two people God created and what happened to them in the Garden of Eden.

The Creation of Adam and Eve

Bible Verse: Genesis 2:7, 18, 21-23

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being… The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’… So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.”

God first created Adam from the dust of the ground, giving him life by breathing into him. Then God created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs to be his companion, so that they could live together and help each other.

Living in the Garden of Eden

Bible Verse: Genesis 2:15-17

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.'”

God placed Adam and Eve in a beautiful garden called Eden, where they had everything they needed. They could eat from any tree except one: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God told them not to eat from this tree.

The Temptation and the Fall

Bible Verse: Genesis 3:1-6

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say, “You must not eat from any tree in the garden”?’… When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

A serpent, which was a very clever creature, tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Eve thought the fruit looked good and would make her wise, so she ate it and gave some to Adam, who also ate it.

The Consequences

Bible Verse: Genesis 3:16-19

“To the woman he said, ‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children… To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat from it,” cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.'”

After they ate the fruit, Adam and Eve realized they had done something wrong. God was not happy with them for breaking His rule. As a result, life became harder for them. They had to leave the beautiful Garden of Eden and work hard to live.
