House Upon a Rock

The parable of the House Upon a Rock is a story Jesus told to teach about the importance of building our lives on strong foundations. This story is found in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 7. It compares two builders – one wise and one foolish – and the outcomes of their choices.

The Wise Builder

Bible Verse: Matthew 7:24-25

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

In this part of the story, Jesus talks about a wise man who built his house on a rock. This means that the man listened to Jesus’ teachings and followed them. Like a house built on a solid rock, his life was strong and could withstand troubles and challenges.

The Foolish Builder

Bible Verse: Matthew 7:26-27

“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Then Jesus talks about a foolish man who built his house on sand. This man heard Jesus’ teachings but did not follow them. His house – his life – was built on a weak foundation, and when difficulties came, it couldn’t stand and collapsed.

The Lesson of the Parable

The parable teaches us that hearing and following Jesus’ words are like building a house on a solid foundation. It’s about living a life based on strong principles and faith, which helps us face hard times without falling apart.
