Jesus Sends the Disciples Ahead

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:22

“Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.”

After feeding the 5,000, Jesus sent his disciples to cross the Sea of Galilee by boat. He stayed behind to send the people home and then went to pray alone.

The Disciples in the Storm

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:24

“But the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.”

While the disciples were in the middle of the lake, a strong wind came up, and the boat was tossed by waves. The disciples were struggling against the wind and waves.

Jesus Walks on Water

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:25-26

“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear.”

In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus walked out to them on the water. The disciples were scared when they saw him, thinking he was a ghost.

Peter Walks Towards Jesus

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:28-29

“‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.”

Peter, one of the disciples, asked Jesus to call him out onto the water. When Jesus said “Come,” Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking on the water towards Jesus.

Peter’s Fear and Jesus’ Help

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:30-31

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?'”

As Peter walked on the water, he became frightened by the strong wind and began to sink. He cried out to Jesus for help. Jesus immediately reached out, saved him, and asked why he doubted.

Jesus Calms the Storm

Bible Verse: Matthew 14:32-33

“And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.'”

After rescuing Peter, Jesus and he got into the boat, and the wind calmed down. The disciples were amazed and worshiped Jesus, recognizing him as the Son of God.
